TOP RANK SLOWLY BRINGING ALONG MIKE ALVARADO

(IB-April 12, 2010) Mike "Mile High" Alvarado (27-0, 19 KO's) has been dealing with personal and physical issues for the past year or so. But apparently all is well and his promotion deal with Top Rank means they feel he is a definite factor in the welterweight division. Alvarado, who on April 3, 2010, defeated Lenin Arroyo (20-11-1, 4 KO's) down in Corpus Christi, Texas at the American Bank Center, by way of TKO in round number 2 is quietly being groomed for what may be the big splash Bob Arum and Top Rank envisions.
The, in my humble opinion, obvious challenges for Alvarado are Joshua Clottey or a fight that could be scheduled right here in Denver that would both sell out quickly and rock the house.

I"m not real familiar with Mike Alvarado but have seen a couple of his fights. In his last fight against Lenin Arroyo he looked good and very determined but Arroyo is not anywhere near the caliber of fighter of a Alfonso Gomez or Joshua Clottey.
Not sure why you think he's ready for this top caliber competition?
I think Mike may fair better with a fight against someone like Antonio Diaz, a good fighter with world class experience and not a guarantee win for Mike.
From what I see, Mike needs a fight where his victory is not so much a guarantee and one where he has to out perform the opponent to win.
Just my opinion, an outsider looking in.
@Sam...Alfonso Gomez' last fight was against the aged Jose Luis Castillo and Castillo looked old and worn out. The more probable question would be "Can Gomez take on the hard punching slick boxing Alvarado and leave with the victory"? Gomez and Alvarado are Top Rank guys so it's pretty much a matter of time before they hook up.
