weight divisions. As all great fighters, Pacquiao is not willing to accept defeat but is he taking too much of a risk in fighting Antonio Margarito. Pacquiao won his first world title in the Flyweight division, weighing in at 112 lbs. and is the current WBC Welterweight champion and shows no weaknesses in his arsenal so being lenient in negotiating a fight with Margarito does not seem to be a big problem.
Pacquiao started his professional boxing career at a meager weight of 106 lbs, fighting his first ten contests weighing no more than 110 lbs. Since then, Pacquiao has won the WBC flyweight, WBC Super Bantamweight, WBC Super Featherweight, and the WBC lightweight. Pacquiao currently reigns as the WBO welterweight (147 lb.) champion. (more)

corrections: king of the ring in 7(soon to be 8) and de la hoya came down to 147 not 145. 'A' for effort Reymahn
Hey Moncayo...what's wrong with you? Have u ever thought that the fight is at the JUNIOR MIDDLEWEIGHT?! So it can't possibly be lower than 150lbs...nor can it be lower than 148 lbs...duh...You don't know your boxing do you? Shall i go on?,,,nah...study more boxing, man...
I can see why Anonymous#2 did not leave his name, the story went right over his head. The point of the story was how 150 pound is too big for pacman. We are all aware of the jr middleweight weight class... duh Please go on...
Anonymous#1, you may be correct in that the Oscar fight was at Welter weight but if Im not mistaken the argument was Manny fighting at 140 versus 147 so they agreed on a catch weight of 145. I'll have to look that one up.
Good story Moncayo, you made many valid points.
How is a victory over Antonio Margarito going to make Manny Pacquiao the greatest? Antonio Margarito was already destroyed by Shane Mosley. Antonio Margarito was also revealed to be fraud right before that.
first of all he is 7 different weight class champs (not 5) and if he loses, and he is willing to accept defeat because he endures what ever God's bless him, unlike Mayweather. About fighting Margaritto, Pacquiao will fight anyone and anybody. About De La Hoya, he was 147 pounds when he fought Pacquiao. About the welterweight limit, it is not 145 pounds, it is 147 pounds. About Roach, he did say something about this and he said that he is against the catch weight 150 pounds because all favors to Margarito. He said it before in the past that he doesnt want to see Pacquiao fighting above the welterweight limit 147 pounds (note that it is not 145 lbs).
p.s. i believe you should do your research first before writing about someone before you embarress yourself... just a friendly reminder
Interesting comments, I'd expect nothing less than the criticism along with the complements. After all as writers, we try our hardest to make a statement.
As far as being the champ in 7 different weight divisions, I elected to leave out the IBO jr. welter title because the IBO is not recognized as a major sanctioning body. However taking into consideration the opponent (Ricky Hatton) I now believe this championship is as valid as any other. So including this championship, I still come up with only 6.
Trust me, I am wrong more often than I am correct, so someone out there let me know what division I am missing.
Official weights for the Pacquiao vs DeLaHoya fight were: Pacquiao 142, DeLaHoya 145, I guess I just did not spell it out in the article.
Freddy Roach is a good man, he's just not being very vocal or protective of Pacquiao in regards to this contest. And I find that very uncharacteristic of him.
Anyhow enjoy the piece, love it or hate it but roll with the punches.
I can be reached via email, should you want to chew me out in private at blackbull@insideboxing.com or pipila00@yahoo.com
Correction: Manny Pacquiao vs Oscar De la Hoya Fight was at 147 lbs WelterWeight. Pacquiao vs Margarito is at 151 Catchweight <---Justifiable Sacrifice for Margacheato, he just needs to shed 3 pounds, when he was originally fighting for 147 lbs welterweight. Basically, Both Fighters(Pac Monster and Margacheato) Needs to GAIN WEIGHT for a 154 lbs Limit.
I'm known as the "BLACK CESAR"...Margarito, Maywea1ther, Miguel...anything that has an "M" in the name can beat the crap outta the 'lil Filipino midget. Pacquiao is more of a fraud than Mayweather. Acting like a politician when he never graduated kindergarten. Getting a certificate from some "online" elementary school means nothing. I'm gonna bet he can't spell CAT if you spotted him the C and T...
There are too much RATS living inside the writer's CHEST! Relax!
Theey keep feeding Pacquiao to the sharks, hopingly this time it won't be the Great White. So far so good but luck has its limits. They really do want to find out how far he can go, and they figured out that this Margarito fight is a calculated risk they are willing to take. Good luck!
quek quek @ black cesar; envy.....hahaha. in your 3 M's one is already down, miguel. next would be margarito. but i think the 3rd M would not happen, because your(mayweather)will not fight pacquiao.and about your kinder garten issue...that's how great pacquiao is..under graduate but he proved he can enter even politics. how about your 3rd M??
ANYONE with the last name MARTINEZ...
Actually Manny Pacquiao doesn't need anything to prove he started young and moved up in weight as he matured. He carried his strength and speed as he moved up as a natural mature fighter. And as a fan I truly believed in his capabilities to take an opponent. To some who don't know he spars with bowers bigger than him all his life and fought bigger boxers and made them immobile. So to all critic's of him don't be a naive to notice this guy's ability and he's not named the P4P fighter for nothing. He always put his self at stake in every best fighters out there.I'm on Manny Pacquiao all the way his just the best.

quek quek @ the writer moncayo; nice to know if you're really on pacman's side.but please take a good research first before you post your item.and by the way, pacman doesn't need to defeat margarito to be in the history of the greatest.because pacquiao is already one of the greatest.and about IBO,even if it is a minor boxing body..still it is a boxing body.so it should be cosidered valid.
quek quek; HEY, did you know that mayweather isn't undefeated? yes he's been defeated several times during amateur days.no excuses, boxing is boxing.amateur or professional, still the sport is boxing.the only difference is you can't choose or handpicked your opponent in amateur, right?!!and that's why mayweather had several defeats.
quek quek @ the quek quek man; Floyd Mayweather was considered among the greatest before his cowardness and Roy Jones jr. was also considered among the greatest before he got his butt kicked all over the place. If Pacman loses watch how fast he too gets off that bandwagon of greatest fighters
Before you post your article, it is better for you to monitor and gather facts. You have written here that Pacquiao is the king of the ring in 5 different weight classes which is generally misleading to readers worldwide. We readers seems better than you when it comes to boxing. Sorry but you embarrassed most of the fans (excluding of course those who idolized Mayweather including you). For the third world title of Pacman is Featherweight. He defeated Marco Antonio Barrera, then the Ring Magazine Featherweight champion which is the bible of boxing where its champions are the real champions better than alphabet champion.
HE IS ALREADY THE GREATEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree agree with the writer and other boxing experts that Margarito has more physical advantages than Pacquiao going into the fight in November, but Pacquiao has proven himself in numerous occasions that he can always overcome adversities and come out a winner in convincing fashion. Margarito is taller, bigger, and stronger, but slower and definitely a stationary target, conversely Pacquiao is clever, faster, and can deliver power punches in different angles which would surprise any opponent and he had displayed this unique ability when Hatton got caught on his jaw with a devastating left and right hook that ultimately made Hatton kiss the canvass and went to sleep dreaming retirement. But of course, in boxing you'll never count any opponent out until the "fat lady sings", as the saying goes.. "Rocky" movies cites to be a good example for Margarito, an underdog, but hightly determined to win and highly motivated to knockout Pacquiao to avenge a grave insult to Mexican boxers for loosing to someone now known as the Mexicutioner and by scoring a TKO against the Mexicutioner, Margarito will instantly become a legend and a hero in Mexico. In view of all these tangible matters, it's conluded that Pacquiao must not take Margarito lightly and should prepare and train hard for this fight. Good luck Manny and team Pacquiao, wished you all the best.

Pacquiao is a 7 Weight Division Champion. Pacquiao wants to win another weight division title, therefore, he has to fight at Jr. Middleweight which has a 154lb weight limit. The catchweight Pacquiao wants is 150lbs. Pacquiao can be very effective at this weight as Alex Arizza knows how to feed and condition Pacquiao to come in strong at this poundage. Margarito may have more trouble with 150 since as you age coming in at exceptionally slim weights becomes more difficult. Margarito is about 5'11 1/2. In anycase if Mosley can handle Margarito, its more likely Pacquiao can, since Pacquiao is a far better conditioned and dynamic fighter.
Pacquiao fought De La Hoya in a 147lb welterweight limit fight. Pacquiao fought Cotto at 145lb catch weight. Manny will probably come in against Margarito at 147lbs, which should be no problem for him. Alex Arizza, who manages Pacquiao's food/supplement intake and strength/conditioning routine and Freddie Roach both feel that Pacqiao is very strong and maintains his speed and mobility at that weight. That's based on their observations, when he was at 147-150 during his training for the Clottey fight, before he reduced down to his contest weight. Margarito will come in at 150-151, which is tough for a 5'11 1/2 man as he ages. Pacquiao's punching power is as good as any welterweight and better than most Jr.Middleweights, that combined with his stellar conditioning and dynamic fighting style should be more than enough to defeat the coming straight at u style of Margarito.
quek quek @ metallica; ooops,no,no,no....pacquiao wont get off that band wagon of greatest fighters even IF he losses the fight to margarito.it was cemented in the history of boxing that pacquiao is the first boxer to get 7 championship belts in seven differrent divisions.history is what he got.
