(IB-SEPTEMBER 15, 2010) With all the latest boxing conversation being Margarito vs Pacquiao, Klitschko vs Briggs, and Alexander vs Bradley, the WBA very quietly mandated the Marcos Maidana vs Amir Khan fight on December 11, 2010 for the WBA World Light welterweight title be up for a purse bid after Maidana's team asked the WBA to intervene.

Golden Boy Promotions promotes both fighters and after the Maidana camp balked at terms for the fight, the Maidana camp asked the WBA to approve a purse bid, which was immediately set for September 21, 2010 in the WBA headquarters in Panama.

The WBA rules call for a 55-45 split of the final purse bid in favor of Khan because Khan is presently the full champion and Maidana carries the title interim champ. (more)

Just last night in response to his previously released out of control, racist , profanity laden, unrequested, diatribe of insanity, and a look at the REAL man with words from his own mouth that he now claims "was just having fun", camt the presumed apology.

This column is short and sweet, like the endorsement deals "Maynever" currently has with AT&T, and REEBOK, will be.

This type of conduct displayed by "Maynever" cannot be tolerated by any true American, especially any true Black American.

The "Maynever" clan appears to be "circling the wagons" as little "Maynever" appeals to Uncle Jeff Mayweather to again become a part of the team. (more)

(IB-SEPTEMBER 1, 2010) In the movie "ENOUGH", starring Jennifer Lopez, where she is repeatedly beaten by her husband and finally comes to terms with the situation by taking matters into her own hands.

In today's FANHOUSE column written by boxing editor Lem Satterfield, the ongoing cries from Oscar de la Hoya demanding Antonio Margarito be "banned for life" have become like Lopez, except de la Hoya cannot take matters into his own hands.

In Satterfield's article, de la hoya preaches his "love for HIS sport" and claims that anyone who does anything to tamper with the fists or gloves should be banned for life.

Carefully chosen words by someone who is the biggest hypocrite in "HIS sport" of boxing.

When it was verified following the Shane Mosley vs Oscar de la Hoya Light Middleweight Championship fight almost seven years ago (September of 2003), that Shane Mosley was definitely a CHEATER and a LIAR for saying he never used performance enhancing drugs of any kind and later forced to admit the usage, it was wondered aloud by most in the boxing community, "What will Oscar do"? Short of a Federal Boxing Commission being formulated, Texas will not allow outside organizations or media to influence nor dictate how they should follow their own laws, rules and regulations. Making a strong and independent statement, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has issued professional boxer Antonio Margarito a license to participate and compete in the sport of professional boxing.

Granting a license to Margarito has paved the way for the mega fight between the Mexican great and pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao.

IB- August 16, 2010 - Manny Pacquiao believes he is invincible, king of the ring in 5 different weight divisions. As all great fighters, Pacquiao is not willing to accept defeat but is he taking too much of a risk in fighting Antonio Margarito.

Pacquiao won his first world title in the Flyweight division, weighing in at 112 lbs. and is the current WBC Welterweight champion and shows no weaknesses in his arsenal so being lenient in negotiating a fight with Margarito does not seem to be a big problem.

Pacquiao started his professional boxing career at a meager weight of 106 lbs, fighting his first ten contests weighing no more than 110 lbs. Since then, Pacquiao has won the WBC flyweight, WBC Super Bantamweight, WBC Super Featherweight, and the WBC lightweight. Pacquiao currently reigns as the WBO welterweight (147 lb.) champion. (more)

Manny Pacquiao has been viewed by most as everything correct in the sport of boxing.

His humility and respect shown for his opponent, both before and after a fight, has made him a fan favorite.

There is not one bit of bad press available for any faction of media to rip the Filipino star, and his country should be proud.

There’s been a temporary detour to Devon Alexander’s quick rise toward boxing sainthood. It seems he misplaced his directions to the Hall of Fame. Or someone swiped them.
The IBF and WBC junior-welterweight champ’s win over former champ Andriy Kotelnik of Germany on Saturday night in Alexander’s hometown of St. Louis, MO, didn’t exactly bring the house down. No streamers, balloons or confetti were tossed in the air. No dancing, no loud music and no drinking into the night.
Turns out Kotelnik was a party crasher.

IB-August 1, 2010 - In what amounted to be a decent pay-per-view, the Juan Manuel Marquez vs Juan Diaz, Daniel Jacobs vs Dmity Pirog, Robert Guerrero Vs Joel Casamayor and Jorge Linares Vs Rocky Juarez, contests were good and maybe not spectacular but very telling to say the least. Telling in that boxing fans were curious to see if Diaz can change his approach and be successful, if Jabobs was indeed the next American dream, can Casamayor cheat father time and a chance for many to see Linares live. And in watching the contests, many questions were answered.

In the main event, and as expected, Diaz fought a much different fight than in the initial contest against Marquez, a more calm but strategic approach.

The strategy may have been successful for Diaz but unfortunately along with this new approach, Diaz had much, too much respect for Marquez...(more)

IB-July 23, 2010 - Well, here we are in the hot time of year we call summer, so I thought I’d write this piece and talk about the five HOT boxing contest I would like to see this year and being realistic and doable contests.

First, let me omit the Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather discomfiture! I’m tired of hearing all bickering, he said, she said (or did not say) going on between both sides. If the fight happens, I’ll watch it, if it does not, then I promise I will not jump off a tall building in a single bound. There are still promising fights to be made by promising fighters that fight for the pride of being the best.

The idea that Mayweather and all of his cronies, specifically Leonard Ellerbe, are now insinuating there never were negotiations for a bout is ridiculous and a slap-in-the-face of all boxing fans and journalists that have been salivating at what was considered to be the richest fight of all-time.

One must look no further than the fact Pacquiao has decided to give Mayweather every concession asked for with the only hurdle being the signature of the once Pound-for-Pound King, Mayweather. (more)

July 9, 2010 - I feel that the only winner in this match up between Chavez Jr. and Miguel Cotto would be their promoter (Bob Arum, Top Rank). Arum is playing into national pride concerns pitting Puerto Rico vs. Mexico. Chavez Jr. needs to fight several respectful fighters before proving himself to such a challenge. Duddy was not much of a challenge as his defensive skills are questionable, and if you do recall he did rock Chavez Jr. in the 6th round.

If he faces Cotto now he’ll get destroyed. There’s no way in hell that we should be offered to watch this farce on pay per view at $49.50. This kind of match up only hurts boxing. After a massive promotional campaign, uneducated occasional boxing fans will get wrapped up in the Puerto Rico vs. Mexico aspect of the fight then purchase it on pay per view. They’ll be disappointed after the bout and swear to never pay $49.50 for boxing again.

I believe that this fight should not take place but knowing the sport of boxing the way it is money driven, not fan oriented, it will take place. It will give boxing another black eye and alienate more fans or potential fans from the sport.

The now irrelevant Mayweather demanded Olympic-style blood testing debacle, which prevented the first attempts at a fight date scheduling, has been bowed down to by Pacquao and new reports surface that Mayweather, Jr demands a 60/40 purse split for the fight.

Mayweather, Jr. representatives deny involvement in any contract negotiations...PERIOD!

There has to be some sense of legitimacy that reports from both sides seem to be trying to give boxing fans the impression that this fight is of little concern to either Pacquiao or Mayweather, Jr. (more)

ranked # 1 at Jr. Middleweight (154Lbs) by the WBC. Taking on 31 yr old “Ireland’s” John Duddy 29-1(18KO’s) ranked at Middleweight (160Lbs) by the WBC # 7 and WBO #14.

It will be interesting to see who comes out victorious as it has been said in boxing circles that these guys haven’t faced real convincing competition yet. There string of knockouts has come against inferior opponents. Once they step it up a bit they win by decision, draw, or lose. (more)

If both sides can get past the hurdles of drug testing, purse splitting, etc, this time, the boxing world and boxing fans will be treated to the biggest and the richest fight in boxing history. These past few days have obviously taken their toll on the new WBA junior middleweight champion as he has been questioned numerous times regarding what path his boxing career will take.

Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO's) who is just 29 years-old, was asked if he had any plans to avenge the brutal beating he took at the hands of the now 32 year-old Antonio Margarito (38-6, 27 KO's). (more)

(IB-JUNE 10, 2010) Newly crowned champion Miguel Cotto said after his defeat of a severely disabled Yuri Foreman that he is "looking for big name fights".

Whether you consider the man, Antonio Margarito, a "big name" or not is irrelevant as Cotto MUST avenge that loss.

The severe beating Cotto took at the hands of Margarito spurred major controversey as Margarito was later found to have illegal hand wraps in his next fight with Shane Mosley.

Mosley then defeated Margarito who was given a 1-year suspension by the California State Athletic Commission after being found guilty of the offense.

Some feel Margarito deserved a much tougher sentence than was handed down, but the fact remains he served his suspension and must now be given the opportunity to redeem himself. (more)

Louis possessed power in both hands and had such compact punches that most observers thought they traveled no more than 6 inches.
With an excellent jab followed by a thunderous right cross or devastating left hook, Louis had a record of 68 wins, 3 losses, with 54 KO's.
Joe Louis is widely recognized as the greatest heavyweight champion that ever lived. While most remember his accomplishments in the ring (a heavyweight division record 25 successful title defenses, and dispatching contender after contender with such ease that they were commonly referred to as members of the "Bum of the month club") it was what Louis meant to Americans during World War II that puts him in class all by himself.(more)

IB- May 9, 2010 - In what turned out to be a one sided contest, Antonio Margarito defeated Roberto Garcia with a 10 round unanimous decision.

Although this fight may have been one sided in favor of Margarito, Garcia certainly made the bout an interesting one by mocking, talking and instigating the former champion.

It almost seemed as if Garcia knew he was outclassed in the “Skills” department but he was determined to show the world just how tough he really is and just how over-rated Margarito may be. And after reviewing the contest, Garcia did accomplish this task. With this being said Garcia may not have won the contest but came out positively victorious.

In the first round, Margarito dropped Garcia and it seemed we were in for a very short contest.(more)

Mayweather makes the fight boring with his exceptional skills

IB – May 2, 2010 - It looked as if we were going to have a fight last night. Yes for two rounds it looked like the fight was going to be a back and forth affair but then the “Sugar High” dispelled and crashed. Some fighters can be at the top of their game and wake up one morning and get old, for many athletes and people in general, age will sneak up and give you that rude awakening.

The awakening was not only rude but it was a brutal affair for the outstanding professional boxer Shane Mosley.

This contest between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Shane Mosley carried the hype of being a fight of the year candidate and when you looked at it on paper, there was no reason to believe otherwise. A Current champion “Sugar” Mosley taking on the best fighter of this generation “Money” Mayweather and with both fighters coming off excellent victories should provide the ingredients.(more)

IB- Arpril 25, 2010 - Once upon a time, we had heavyweights that fought. Boxing fans were uninterested in the lighter weights in boxing because the heavyweights were so exciting and dominate. The sport of boxing was indeed the heavyweights.

It has been decades since any heavyweight fight brought excitement and energy to the arena but what we witnessed in the contest between Christobal Arreola and Tomasz Adamek was a nice flash back.

When this contest was made, I just simply thought Dan Goossen was continuing to keep the fight in Arreola by matching him against smaller inferior opponents...

(IB-April 21, 2010) Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard "Tricky Dick" Schaefer was forced to finally admit what we all knew, or at least suspected yesterday afternoon.

The bout May 1, 2010, between Shane Mosley and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. will NOT be for Mosley's WBA welterweight title because Mayweather refuses to pay the WBA sanctioning fees, according to Schaefer.

"The WBA welterweight belt will not be awarded to the winner on May 1st. The fight will be just the two best fighters fighting", said Schaefer.

The WBA has several options one of which is should Mosley win, the belt is unaffected, but if he were to lose, the WBA could elect to simply vacate the title. (more)

Alvarado, who on April 3, 2010, defeated Lenin Arroyo (20-11-1, 4 KO's) down in Corpus Christi, Texas at the American Bank Center, by way of TKO in round number 2 is quietly being groomed for what may be the big splash Bob Arum and Top Rank envisions.

The, in my humble opinion, obvious challenges for Alvarado are Joshua Clottey or a fight that could be scheduled right here in Denver that would both sell out quickly and rock the house.

IB-April 5, 2010 - It’s been 16 months since the Hispanic Boxing series “Solo Boxeo Tecate” broadcasted a live professional boxing event. The last show telecasted was on Friday, December 19th. from Denver Colorado with the main event highlighting Denver’s local contender Mike Alvarado.

Oscar De La Hoya has given the boxing series mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and may have hit the show a couple of times with a defibrillator because the heart of Solo Boxeo Tecate is again pumping.

On Friday, April 30 the series starts a new life, the premiere show will feature the “return to the ring” of Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero. (more)

That would be appropriate with David "Hayemaker" Haye (23-1, 20 KO's) taking on John "The Quiet Man" Ruiz (44-8-1, 30 KO's) in what should be nothing more than a silly prank.

(IB-February 15, 2010) The word came down just a few days ago that former World Welterweight Champion 31 years old Antonio Margarito (37-6-0-1, 27 KO's) would not be allowed to fight on the March 13, 2010 undercard of the featured Manny Pacquiao vs Joshua Clottey mega-match.

For most, arriving at the decision to exclude Margarito from being allowed to fight on this card went much further than him returning from a 1 year suspension. In the vocal "court of public opinion", Antonio Margarito has committed the crime of cheating in one of the most reprehensible ways possible in the sport.

Boxing is considered by outsiders as animalistic in that the main objective is for one man to beat the other either senseless or unable to continue fighting. Having anything foreign that could enhance the power delivered by a punch is not only unfair, but dangerous. (more)

(IB) – February 03, 2010 – Now that both fighters; Mosley and Mayweather, have signed to fight each other on May 1st at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV, We can actually begin to take a closer look at this fight.

For me, I will have to say that the SMART MONEY…IS ON “MONEY”, Floyd “Money” Mayweather. While I have a lot of respect for all that Shane has achieved in his stellar career, I don't see him prevailing against Floyd in this fight. In my humble opinion, there is actually only ONE real threat in the Welterweight Division to defeat Floyd. It’s not Shane or the Pac Man. It’s actually Berto. Had Mosley and Berto fought last weekend, we would have all witnessed exactly what I have just stated. It’s something about a skillful champion with a ZERO in the lost column. He doesn't know how to lose. That is the case with "Money" Mayweather. Mosley and Pac Man have experience in losing fights...Floyd doesn't and that will be the difference maker. (IB-January 27, 2010) The newly crowned "king of boxing promotions", Oscar de la hoya, has decided that anyone caught cheating in boxing should be "banned for life".

Bob Arum, who according to de la hoya is now the "anti-christ of boxing promoters" for allowing Antonio Margarito a place on the Manny Pacquiao vs Joshua Clottey fight card.

Do we now have the current BIG TWO in professional boxing promotions calling each other out for misdeeds? Can either of these two actually perceive themselves as some sort of boxing messiah?

"Cheating" is a term relative to what the circumstances are. A man cheats on his wife and it sometimes is blamed on the wife not being affectionate enough. This man then feels vindicated for his wayward actions. A golfer uses the old "foot wedge" to get a better chance at making the green on his next shot because his opponent always talks so much crap when he wins. This golfer feels his actions were appropriate because of the circumstances. One fighter knows he cannot fight for very long because of his "soft hands". This fighter finds the one state (Nevada) that will allow him to use a pain killer to ease the discomfort. This fighter feels vindicated because the pain killers don't help him gain any edge. (more)

(IB-January 24, 2010) – Juan Manuel Lopez “Juanma” Stepped into the ring with the not-so-easy task of defeating WBO featherweight champion Steven Luevano. Lopez, the WBO junior featherweight champion moved up in weight after having difficulty making the 122lb. weight limit.

The weight issue was evident in Lopez’ previous contest when he was paired against Roger Mtagwa from Tanzanian. Lopez dominated early in the fight but wore down, barley salvaging a win, not the case last night at the Madison Square Garden in New York.

Luevano, fighting out of La Puente, California came up short from successfully defending his title for the sixth time. Luevano had held the belt since July of 2007 when he defeated Nicky Cook in Greenwich, London.(more)

The devastating earthquake and it's powers of destruction forced Andre Berto to cancel his first million dollar pay day against Shane Mosley that was scheduled for Saturday January 30, 2010.

The fight was to be an eliminator of sorts with the winner expected to get a shot at Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

There are suspicions that Berto was offered "back-out money" by Golden Boy Productions (Oscar de la hoya) to tend to his family in Haiti while allowing fight negotiations to begin for a Mayweather vs Shane Mosley bout. (more)

(IB-January 16, 2009) Last night in Laredo Texas there were two events that needed covering.

The continued success of featherweight Juan Carlos Burgos (24-0, 17 KO's) was not marred by the not surprisingly tough and persistent Juan Carlos Martinez (15-11-1, 5 KO's) in the main event.

The young Burgos still has a long way to go, but was able to finally take out the pesky Martinez when the bout was ended after Burgos landed several solid shots forcing the referee to step in and end the bout in round twelve.

Most irritating were the comments by analysts Teddy Atlas and Brian Kenny who spoke as if we were seeing the next featherweight champion in the still maturing Burgos.

This fight was "made for radio" because Burgos showed himself to be limited in both hand and foot speed. (more)

On Tuesday, Golden Boy Productions signed heavyweight journeyman John Ruiz (44-8-1, 30 KO's) to a contract after Ruiz' affiliation with Don King Promotions had expired and no attempt was made by Don King to keep Ruiz in the fold.

The signing of Ruiz by Golden Boy Productions is not out of character.

Oscar de la hoya has continued the "recycle route" by contracting fighters who are members of the "senior circuit". John Ruiz being signed by Golden Boy Productions, with not even a whimper from Don King who still controls the heavyweight division, lets you know of Ruiz' box office potential. (more)

(IB-January 13, 2009) The list of worthy opponents for the now scrambling Floyd Mayweather, Jr., is full of yawners. No bigger yawner could be chosen than if 29 years old Paul "Paulie" Malignaggi (27-3, 5 KO's) of Brooklyn, New York were selected to fight on March 13, 2009 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Malignaggi has been a "talker" for his entire professional career. He feels that what he does is entertain the people. He is in denial. He really has no idea that his Olympic style boxing is boring at the professional level and continues to proclaim himself "the best".

Malignaggi could possibly make a case for himself fighting Mayweather, Jr. were it not for the fact that he has not 1, not 2 but 3 losses in his career. Those 3 losses were against Ricky Hatton, Juan Diaz and Miguel Cotto, all rough and tough body punching machines.

To his credit Malignaggi did avenge the loss to Diaz in the rematch, but giving the smaller Diaz a boxing lesson the 2nd time around did little to attract attention to the "mouth from Brooklyn". He didn't get it. (more)

(IB-January 12, 2009) Now that the Manny Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 KO's) vs Joshua Clottey (35-3-0-1, 20 KO's) fight has been finalized for March 13, 2009 at the Dallas Cowboys owned stadium, all that's left is for boxing fans to decide who Floyd Mayweather, Jr. (40-0, 25KO's) would consider a legitimate opponent for his own anticipated match.

There currently seems to be much buzz that "Money" Mayweather will be fighting Nate Campbell (33-5-1-1, 25 KO's) sometime in March or April of 2009. This idea is just speculation but seems to be the much safer route for Mayweather, Jr. than the one taken by Pacquiao vs Clottey.

In Nate Campbell's' last fight, against Timothy Bradley, a cut over and behind Campbell's' left eye forced him to come to the conclusion he could not continue. Bradley was awarded a TKO victory but after debating the issue, The California State Athletic Commission declared the fight a draw. (more)

Now he is an opponent, a fighter other young prospects fight on their way up. At the age of 42 and weighing nearly 280 pounds, Butler came into his fight with Russian Andrey Fedosov overweight and out of shape. His only option was for the Russian to fight him on the inside, so he didn’t have t chase his opponent and hope that lightening can strike early.

In a competitive first round, Butler did very little chasing but he didn’t have to for Fedosov was perfectly willing to stand in front of the bigger Butler. Butler outweighed his opponent by over 50 pounds and having Fedosov exchanged punches fit right into his game plan... (more)

Floyd Mayweather, Jr., in his first public comments since Top Rank CEO Bob Arum declared "the fight is off", maintains Manny Pacquiao refused the offer of a "14 day before the fight blood-draw" for testing.

"He (Pacquiao) should just come out and say he doesn't want to fight me. He is the one who just doesn't want to be tested. The whole world wants to see this fight and the one who doesn't want to make it happen is Manny Pacquiao", said the rather subdued Mayweather, Jr. in a released statement.

(IB-JANUARY 5, 2009) Later this morning the opposing sides of Top Rank and Golden Boy Productions, will sit down at the bargaining table. They will attempt to come to some sort of agreement, aided by mediation specialist The Honorable Daniel Weinstein, and allow the so-called "FIGHT OF THE DECADE" to move forward.

The terse relationship between Bob Arum (Top Rank) and Richard Schaefer (Golden Boy Productions) may be a major sticking point in the negotiations. There are many issues to be ironed out and the timing of the blood-draw is just one of many to be discussed.

I'm going to "move-on" and myself give you a sort of "pre-fight" analysis that may shed a bit of doubt on labeling this "The fight that everyone wants to see"...

Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is probably one of the most gifted boxers of all time. He has shown that his hand and foot speed are virtually second to none in the ring. They all have to make a meaningful apology" before Manny Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 KO's) would even consider dropping the civil suit against Floyd Mayweather, Jr. (40-0, 25 KO's), his father Floyd, Sr., his uncle Roger, Oscar de la Hoya, Richard Schaefer and Golden Boy Productions, and begin negotiations for a fight.

Top Rank CEO Bob Arum made this statement after announcing that on Tuesday morning in the Santa Monica offices of retired Federal Judge Daniel Weinstein of JAMS (Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services) there will be an attempt at reaching some type of agreement whereas fight negotiations can continue.

(IB-DECEMBER 30, 2009) This afternoon Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao had attorney Dan Petrocelli file a much anticipated slander and defamation suit in Las Vegas Federal Court.

Pacquiao feels there has been a verbal attack levied against him intended to question the character of both he and his home country of the Philippines.

Alleging Floyd Mayweather, Jr., his father Floyd, Sr. and GOLDEN BOY PRODUCTIONS CEO Richard Schaefer have conspired to destroy Pacquiao's "career, reputation, honor and legacy and jeopardize his ability to earn the highest levels of compensation", there was no monetary amount asked.

Attorney Petrocelli stated that his client could be out "tens of millions of dollars in reputation and lost business opportunities" because there has been planted the seed of doubt whether Pacquiao has ever used any Performance Enhancing Drugs... (more)

The latest development has an irate Manny Pacquiao releasing a statement to the Philippine press declaring he has documented every public statement or blog where the above mentioned have accused Pacquiao of using PEDs (Performance Enhancing Drugs).

What has so infuriated Pacquiao is the statements where the "3 conspirators" have claimed that "the Philippines has the best PEDs in the world". Including his country in this sordid mess has apparently pushed Pacquiao over the top... (more)

(IB-DECEMBER 28, 2009) It's looking more and more as if the highly anticipated show-down between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. will not happen...at least not on March 13th of 2010.

The insistance of Olympic style blood testing by Mayweather, Jr. and Golden Boy Productions have effectively underminded the fight being held on the March 13th of 2010 date.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum had given a Monday, December 28th deadline for Mayweather, Jr. and Golden Boy Productions to accept the counter offer of letting the NSAC (Nevada State Athletic Commission) decide what form of testing would be used or the fight would be called off.

GBP CEO Richard Schaefer has said there would be absolutely no other way the fight will happen unless Pacquiao allows random testing of his blood right up to the fight... (more)

There seem to be villains on both sides of the table in these bizarre and quite frankly silly attempts to come to a "meeting of the minds" in getting this record breaking financial effort consumated.

Having just fought a tough battle in mid-November against Miguel Cotto, it was understandably a tough decision for Pacquiao to decide the March 13, 2010 date was enough time to both recover and properly train for a match with Mayweather.
